I received my seedling starter trays the other day. Despite the relatively inexpensive price, I am happy to report that the construction and design are very good. The green plastic trays are fairly rigid as is the clear plastic cover. The "air vent" simply snaps on the top of the cover and turns smoothly despite the simplistic design. The clear plastic seedling trays are a softer plastic but not so soft that they crumple easily. They appear to retain their shape even after pinching them. All of the components appear to fit nicely together. Yesterday, I filled all the trays with a soil-less planting mix and planted my vegetable seeds. And based on my 20+ years of home gardening experience, I expect that I will get quite a few seasons out of these trays. I am pleased with my purchase.
At first I expected them to be larger seed trays( I clearly did not check the dimensions) but ultimately these are well worth the money! I love how you can have extra water in the bottom pans and the lids have adjustable spheres to allow more or less air to get in and out .I have mine on a timer under lights and I needed something to hold the moisture in so I would not have to worry about constant watering as I work long 13 four days and cannot be around to keep them from drying out under the grow lights.I also loved how the kit came with labels to stick in your trays to tell what you planted.
I have under counter lighting of LED true daylight that dim. So this was the perfect spot for me to start my seeds. I used a heat pad and these containers. The lid helped them germinate extra fast by keeping the temperature warmer and moister. Then off came the lids as they grew tall. I also love that I can lift the plants and see the roots growing as it is a clear tray inside the green one. This helps to ensure that I water them enough to get all the roots wet.
I just germinated my seeds in this seed tray and had great success. I like that you can adjust the ventilation to control the humidity. Everything seems sturdy and that it will last a few seasons at least. I like the size of the trays because I'm a container gardener & don't need to start 20 of a single seed type. I used 3 of the trays and have almost all the seedlings I'll need for the season.I love this invention!
